Effingham is a 25-bed critical access hospital, offering a variety of nursing services. In-patient care at Effingham Hospital encompasses everything from emergency admissions and overnight observations, to post-surgery, 23-hour admissions, swing beds, illness, disease management, respite and hospice care. Swing Beds Swing bed nursing care helps patients make the transition from acute care to other settings. Many swing bed patients have undergone procedures at larger, tertiary care hospitals and are in need of intensive, skilled care to make a successful recovery and be discharged to go home. Such skilled services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, available at Effingham Hospital from The Rehabilitation Center, or perhaps Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, or continued administration of intravenous medicines. Some swing bed patients may cross the acute care bridge and move into a nursing home, such as the Care Center, or into a home-based care setting. The Get Well Express provides friendly and fun transportation for the youngest patients. Donated by the Auxiliary, the inaugural ride carried Montgomery Lang and his younger sibling from registration to the in-patient wing. All of Effingham Hospital's managers are "working" managers, handling administrative duties and spending a portion of their time actively involved with patient care. Respite Care Respite care is offered to any home-based caregiver who may need a break from the intensive, daily effort of tending to a patient. Whenever unexpected life circumstances may arise, whether it be for an out-of-town trip, a special event, or to tend to their own healthcare needs, respite care may be extended for up to 14 days, upon availability, at a rate of about $176 per day, including 24-hour nursing services, meals and any necessary administration of medicines and treatments. Hospice Effingham Hospital maintains contracts with both Hospice Savannah and VistaCare.
